I got into it in my current job – I’d never done it before in school or at uni- I didn’t really know what it was (I thought you had to put plastic into a 3D printer, then do some really hard, mysterious maths to tell the printer what you wanted, & then it would build your object)

When I was given this job they gave me training to learn how to do it, and lots of time to practice. I found out that you can 3D print in all kinds of materials (not just plastic), and that the ‘really hard, mysterious maths’ was actually okay- they taught me how to draw computer sketches of objects to give to the printer (it’s not really ‘maths’ – it’s more like ‘drawings’ or ‘blueprints’)

The drawing skills I learnt in art at school, plus the maths they teach you about angles and shapes have helped me the most in learning to 3D print, but I think anyone could do it with enough practice 🙂
